Beyond 11+: How to design a meaningful injury prevention program

Despite the obvious importance of injury prevention in sports, many sports professionals (especially players and coaches) are reluctant to engage in injury prevention activities(2,3). This is probably because injury prevention requires investment in the form of time and energy, but doesn’t provide a tangible outcome for your investment. Success in injury prevention is a non-event! In this way, injury prevention is a ‘grudge purchase’, much like buying car insurance. You are forced to pay for it but then spend the whole year hoping that an accident doesn’t happen, and when it doesn’t we wonder whether the investment was really worth it at all.
